Today was another beautiful day for a run, the only problem was that I had done a bunch of yard work and moving dirt before I ran. Mowing the lawn and stuff is not a big deal, but filling 5 wheel barrows full of dirt then, spreading it out was more upper body work than I am used too now
.
Even though I have a lot more dirt to spread around, this was my first day of doing it this year, I kept it conservative. The shoveling, moving a filled wheelbarrow and spreading it around, tends to bother my lower back, so I just want to be real careful to not overdo it like I usually do. Tonight the only thing that is sore from that workout are my abs
.
The shoveling dirt, along with my upcoming lumberjack workouts, should get my upper body in pretty good shape by the end of May. I might even have some abs (which I haven’t seen in way too many years).
After I did my 100 ups and actually started running I really wasn’t all that into doing the 5.0 miles and had thought about just doing a 2.0 and then doing 3.0 tomorrow. However, nasty weather is coming and I believe that the old bod is telling me I need a day or two off, so I did my 5.0 got to 40 miles for the week and don’t have to run tomorrow.
To be honest I was tired coming back and was running into a 10-15 mph head wind, so I didn’t really try to pick up the pace at all until I got back to the tar. Then I tried to pick it up a little and got an 8:18 for my last mile.
It seems that I do okay around 30-35 miles per week, but when I go up to 40, I feel more tired, especially now that I am doing more than just running. Gotta think about this some more.
Since I have gone to running exclusively in the Newton’s I have had a little discomfort in my left shin area, so I am going to be keeping an eye on that. Also my right ankle was rubbed raw by the shoe and got the sock a little bloody today. It didn’t bother me while running on tar, but while going through down-back and the uneven road, it bothered a lot more? It seems that now that I am using them everyday and for longer runs, a few little thing are coming up.
Just some things to keep an eye on.
The other great news was that I reached my weight goal (for the first time) this year today – 155. I imagine that I will bounce around over it for a while, but it does mean that I have done pretty good this year
. Now I just have to work at staying between 150 and 155 and I will be very happy.
TheWife and some others have commented that if I lose much more weight that I will start to look really old. I just tell them that I am old and I am not too worried about it. Besides what would happen if I went into marathon training mode and was running even more miles – would be under 150 pretty quick I do believe (if I could sustain the mileage).
