Didn’t Want to Stop Today 7-15-12

P7150001No way I was going to run roads today, it was just too damn hot, it was in the 80’s and bright sunshine!

Instead I decided to run Messalonskee Stream Trail.

It is short, somewhere between 3 and 4 more miles, so it was just a quick run to keep the body moving more than anything.

Below is a Slide Show of the Trail (Hopefully).

Ain’t Technology Wonderful

The Garmin Fit iPhone App came up with 3.14 for mileage, but I trust that about as much as nothing right now, with all the luck that I have been having with mileage and iPhone 3G GPS Apps. Oh well the joys of modern technology.

It is getting to the point where I am just going to run my road runs with my watch and then go back to map them with Bing or Google maps. I might not get as much data (splits, elevation changes, etc.), but at least it would be consistent distances.

Proof

The only problem with that is I like to publish the GPS data to prove that I actually did a run, so that some of the shall we say haters/creeps can’t say that I am a phony and write very nice fantasy posts about my runs.

Been there done that and I hate it when some people disparage my integrity about my running that way. That is why I have tried to have a GPS record of most of  my runs – that way it is a lot harder for others to “question” whether I am really running or not.

I have a simple and rather blunt answer for the haters or anyone who thinks that I publish fantasy running posts – K.M.A. and come up heah to run with me. That way you can see if my training is for real or not – oh well gotta love the haters. I guess that is why I moderate all of my comments.

Back to the run

It was hot, but for the most part it was in the shade and I felt pretty good, I purposely stayed slow and once I made it up the hill, I kept the camera out and kept taking pictures of the trail, because when I put the camera away, I tended to speed up too much – I felt like I really wanted to go faster today. This was meant to be a nice, easy run to get ready for tomorrow’s long run.

P7150032When I got back to the bridge, I just went no way! I couldn’t believe the run was almost over, my body was just getting warmed-up (my shirt was soaked through) and was saying let’s go do it again, this time leave the damn camera in the car!!!

I didn’t do another lap, even though I really wanted to, I already had 50 miles for the week and doing another 3+, as much as I would have enjoyed it, would have left me pretty tired for my long run tomorrow.

Oh well, it does mean that my body is acclimating to the hotter weather and the 50 mile weeks.

Very good run overall and I did what I wanted, cleaned all the sludge out from yesterday’s tough 10.0 miler. Smile

Great pictures, I think I’ll have to try some trail running at some point.

John – I actually prefer trail running over road running and would do more of them if I didn’t have to drive 10-15 miles to the closest trail heads.

I have to be in the moment and can’t go wool gathering while on the trails. It really helps me with focusing while running (if you don’t focus on the trails, you will give blood or skin or both – been there done that). Plus in my mind it is much more peaceful and beautiful than dodging traffic. Biggest negative sometimes is that some other let their dogs run free and almost always say those famous words “oh he’s/she’s friendly! Don’t worry!

Idiotic drivers have been my pain recently. Dogs are a close second.

I gave my first universal single finger salute of the year last week and more and more dogs are becoming a pain in the butt, I think that is why I like the trails better, less motorized traffic and actually a lot less dogs.
