I ran a little earlier today and when I went by the temperature display on the way by Mystic Lake Casino area it read 95 degrees, so it was still a damn hot run!
So I just took it easy and worked on my form in the Altra Instincts.
Today, I didn’t have any problems with the socks and the shoes felt really great the whole way, so I have over 15 miles in the Altra Instinct’s and no problems from them. I just have a sneaking suspicion that I am going to like these shoes a lot, but don’t want to get my hopes up to high this soon after getting them.
However, last night I was playing with my oldest grandson and he lifted my right foot up to about his chest level. Then when I relaxed it a little he suddenly dropped it and my heal bounced off the floor. Which definitely got my attention – no real damage, but it seems to have re-aggravated some tendonitis in the area. Nothing serious but just enough to be a pain.
The run was just slow and I put one foot in front of the other type of run. I do like that out here there are very wide sidewalks and that fighting traffic is not nearly as big an issue. I will get some pictures of what I mean on tomorrow’s run.
Wow – only need 3.4 to get 50 for the week and I am scheduled to do a 10 miler tomorrow, so it will be interesting, who knows if I feel great, I might just do 6.0 on Sunday, that would be something to write home about and then have a cut-back week next week.

You sir, are amazing! You keep my mind inspired, I have to admit, when the heat is on, you never quit!
I wish I could say the same for me. Today I cut short my 15 miler in favor of nursing my left lower-back-hamstring-Achilles, getting only 8-ish, but I got the first 5 in the 9′s, until I had to slow it down. I will be taking it somewhat easy this coming week. The family, we’re heading on a Disney Cruise, and I have the Castaway Cay 5k on Saturday, then two week’s later I have my 8 hour “ultra” to do. (Maybe I’ve bitten off more than I can chew).
Today I’m full of lyrical quips, I so enjoy reading your Veteran Runnah tips!
Have a great day Harold, enjoy that run!

Thanks Smiddy, you do pretty great yourself! Some would call me old and foolish, I just call myself a bit stubborn
.
Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor, if you have a possible injury flaring up it is smart to cut-back and stop, then you will/can run more later. There is nothing wrong with taking it easy, next week will be my cut-back week too, but I am jealous of you going on a cruise – someday I will
Just have fun with the races and use the Ultra as a long training run and if your back/hamstring flare-up gracefully walk away and enjoy other parts of the event. I know that is the advice most runners would give, but at times it is better to enjoy the social side of the race and not injure yourself for your goal of MCM. In my mind all races between now and then would just be training part of my training for that, not do or die races.
Have fun on your cruise and vacation and enjoy being around family
