Now Back to Running–9/6/12

This doesn’t have a lot to do with running, but it does have a lot to do with how I keep track of my running, when the races are, my calendar and the all important honey-doo list. That is why you haven’t seen much of me on social media sites over the past few days. I have spent most of my free time changing over to Office 2013 Preview as my productivity software/apps.

Microsoft

I have been very impressed with the Office 2013 Preview, enough so that I am starting to use it for everything (it has a few things that are still being worked out) and yes I plan to upgrade to it once it becomes available.

If you want to try the Office 2013 Preview – go to Microsoft.com and you can download it for free like I did. Microsoft didn’t give me anything to say this, these are simply my thoughts and what I am doing to keep track of things in my life.

Now back to running Smile

Yesterday was my day off in my new schedule and that is what I did – took the day off and it felt good!

This morning I had to go get my truck back from the repair shop, so I ran the 2.54 miles there and it felt pretty good. I didn’t really push and just ran relaxed the whole way and still had a pretty quick time. I knew that I was going to run 9.0 miles this morning after getting my truck, to test out my hip and hamstrings – so I would know how they held up on a longer run.

When I got back home I relaxed for about 20 minutes and then went for my 9.0 miler. The temps were in the low 60’s, low humidity and sunshine – darn near perfect running weather. I left the water at home and had a handful of unsalted peanuts. Here are my splits:

  • Mile 1.0 – 8:54
  • Wildwood Dr. – 17:35 (8:40)
  • Goodhue Road – 29:23 (11:47)
  • Pond Road – 36:25 (7:02)
  • Bartlett Road – 53:50 (17:25)
  • Tiffany Road – 01:05:19 (11:28)
  • Mile 8.0 – 01:09:00 (3:40)
  • Mile 9.0 – 01:18:50 (9:50)
  • Mile 10.0 – 01:27:45 (8:54)

I ran the first mile slow and easy and then just ran the rest of the way comfortably working on my form. Did you notice that I ended up with 10.0? I was feeling good enough to run that extra mile this morning Smile.

During the run I was trying slightly different forms to see if I could find one that helped the hamstrings/hip feel more comfortable. I found one that really helped the hip and didn’t bother the hamstring and worked at keeping that form as much as possible. It really is amazing how much just a little tweak can make a huge difference.

Also I was running in my Newton’s and they didn’t bother me at all during the run. I plan to write a post about returning to running in the Newton Gravity’s and how they are doing for me.

Nice, an extra mile! Give you and inch, and you take a mile. :D Semi-taper mode for me, and I sure do need it, been dreading the workouts a little, which means mentally need a recharge. I’ll let you know how I do next weekend. :)

Tapers are tough if you are dreading the workouts means it is time to slow down a little and recharge. I can;t wait to hear how you do :-)
